Contro turns debates into fair markets, where insight matters, and backing your convictions earns real rewards. It’s a space where anyone can test ideas, learn from different perspectives, and get rewarded for backing the winning side - not just being loud.
At the backbone of Contro’s debate markets is our biggest innovation: The Gradual Limit Order Book (GLOB). A new way to trade that’s continuous, fair, and transparent. Let’s quickly recap why GLOBs are such a game-changer.
Traditional trading treats your order like dumping a bucket of water all at once. That makes a splash, causing price slippage and potentially unfair execution. GLOB trading is like pouring the same water gently, a little at a time. Your trade streams into the market. No sudden impact, but everyone trading at the same moment gets the same fair price (learn more about GLOBs).
But here’s the thing: this isn’t just a better market mechanism. It’s a fundamental shift to true peer-to-peer trading that is enabling new applications, and it deserves the right home. That’s why we’re building our own appchain on Initia.
When you’re doing something new, you need control. We didn’t want to squeeze GLOBs onto someone else’s chain or settle for generic infrastructure. We needed a custom home, built for performance and scalability. Here’s why we’re launching a dedicated appchain:
No more competing for block space. No more unpredictable fees. We tune block times, set transaction costs, and reserve all throughput. That means GLOB trading stays fast and affordable.
GLOBs have unique mechanics: gradual execution, continuous price discovery, and automated role-flipping from buyer to seller. With our own chain, we can bake these into the core protocol, ensuring maximum efficiency and flexibility to upgrade as we innovate.
We thought about it and quickly realized it wasn’t worth the tradeoffs.
Building an L1 means launching a validator network, securing the chain, and dealing with inflationary tokenomics to incentivize participation. We’d rather spend our time making GLOB trading the best it can be, not running validator outreach campaigns.
We don’t want an inflationary token propping up network security. By launching an L2 on Initia, we inherit shared security and keep our token model clean and focused on utility.
We avoid months or years of L1 development by leveraging Initia’s battle-tested infrastructure and devops expertise. That means Contro’s GLOB markets are live sooner and ready to scale from day one.
There are plenty of blockchains out there. So why are we choosing Initia?
Initia’s team brings together experience from various blockchain ecosystems, including Cosmos and Ethereum. Their approach to solving common challenges aligns with our needs:
Most importantly, their focus on abstracting away technical complexities for users complements our product-focused development philosophy.
Initia is a Layer 1 blockchain built using Cosmos SDK, designed specifically for a new appchain ecosystem formed by tightly integrated Layer 2 rollups (”interwoven rollups”). It gives us the flexibility to run our own chain without compromising on shared security or interoperability, and it ships with all the basic tools and features like a kick-ass block explorer and wallet widget, native stablecoins, and a smart and liquid DEX on the Layer 1.
Thanks to IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication), assets and information flow freely between Contro and other appchains in the Initia and wider ecosystems. No more wallet juggling. No more wrapped-token headaches. Just seamless, intuitive user experiences.
Initia supports multiple virtual machines (EVM, MoveVM, CosmWasm). That gives us the confidence and freedom to implement GLOB’s unique trading logic in the most efficient way possible and adapt as we evolve.
Initia is focussed on helping their appchains creating good products. Reaching product-market-fit is an iterative process. One interesting offer by Initia is to help with their Vested Interest Program: By providing vested INIT token incentives that are awarded directly to users based on appchain KPIs, governance voting (and INIT usage), long-term use of apps is incentivized. This helps appchain teams improve their offers and get user feedback throughout iterating on their product.
We’re launching a first version of a prediction market powered by GLOBs in the coming weeks. Early enthusiasts can finally experience GLOB trading in action - where your limit orders stream in gradually, automatically pausing when prices move against you.
Our timeline aligns well with Initia’s development cycle with their mainnet launch coming up very shortly. Their rigorous testnet phase already demonstrated a commitment to stability and security that matches our own priorities.
Building our own GLOB appchain on Initia gives us the perfect balance:
